BBC Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch is live on Saturday with presenter Mark Murphy joined by the show’s regulars, Blues legend Kevin Beattie, football’s youngest pundit Tractorboy and TWTD’s Phil Ham (midday to 2pm). Amongst the guests will be Peterborough United’s director of football Barry Fry and Blues legend David Johnson (1970s one).

Former Blues striker David Johnson, the 1970s version, will be back in town on Friday 14th September at a sporting dinner at Greshams in Tuddenham Road (7.15pm). The man known as Jonty was at Portman Road between 1972 and 1976 and also played for Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City and Preston, as well as winning eight full England caps and scoring six international goals.

The Blues manager’s options are somewhat limited by international calls and a couple of injuries, while he admits his squad is three players short.

Returning to Portman Road brought childhood memories flooding back for new Blues keeper Scott Loach, who completed his £150,000 switch from Watford earlier today. The 24-year-old, who has signed a three-year deal with the option of a further season, was with the Town academy between 1997 and 2000 before his father’s work took them back to Nottingham.

Various Blues legends of the past will be back in action at Portman Road on Sunday in a charity match raising funds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and the ITFC Charitable Trust (KO 3pm). Mick Mills will be in charge of the Milsoms’ Maestros, a side representing the local hotel and restaurant group, as they take on the Wheeler Wine Masters, a team from The Colchester Wine Company, managed by George Burley.
